I have writer’s block…which is okay really, because I am a photographer, not a writer…yeah? That being said, I will keep it simple:
We went to Prague.
It was fun.
Here are some pictures.

Okay, maybe just a few words, because I can’t NOT tell you guys about this awesome place. All these photos (except for the last one…that was in the hotel lift) were taken in the Old Town Square of Prague–or Praha as it is called there. See the big tower up above? It is Prague’s Old Town Hall and we got to climb to the top of it. Here’s how we got up there:

And here’s the view from the top.

This is a little side room at the bottom of the tower–so colorful and full of detail!

More sweet architecture around the square.

This one’s my favorite. :) These little guys were so serious. Even though the square was incredibly busy and crowded, they sat so intently drawing the buildings around them. Their parents were just relaxing nearby at the tower.

And finally, a couple fun shots. More Prague photos coming shortly!

Jason says that this one is his favorite. ;)

amsterdam

May 14, 2009

Finally!!!  Here are some images from our time spent in this beautiful city.  Until a couple weeks ago I had not heard and did not know much about Amsterdam apart from it’s infamous stereotypes.  But as I look back on our weekend there, a couple items come to mind.   They are things that, for me, will always define Amsterdam.  The first thing has to do with architecture.  Take a look at the photos below, especially the third one.  Tall, squished, and colorful buildings run along the sides of each street.  Everything is just so crammed in there, and it is awesome.  Many of these buildings actually lean forward toward the top, and look as if they could fall over.  The second trait that I feel defines Amsterdam is the humongous bicycle culture.  In Amsterdam biking is not just a hobby or quintessential past-time, it is a genuine form of transportation.  One type of bike even has a wooden box built into the bike between the handlebars and front wheel, and is often used by parents to carry their child in.  It is called a bakfiets.  Pretty sweet :)
Oh, and I must thank Antje for taking the lovely photo of Jason and I below.  It’s not often that we get in front of the camera, so I thought I’d post it here.  And on a final note, I think that Dutch is a very interesting language.  I made sure the bakfiets link went to their Dutch site so you could see…

city of bikes

May 11, 2009

According to Wikipedia, the population of Amsterdam at the beginning of 2009 was around 758,000.  Compare that to the some 700,000 bikes in the city, and you’ve got an astonishing ratio of one bike for nearly EVERY person.  As we walked around Amsterdam we joked that there must be more bikes than people, and I didn’t realize at the time how true that statement really is.  And though Amsterdam was packed with people, bikes, and cars, it was so enjoyable to ride around in a city that is so incredibly bike friendly, with spacious bike lanes that comprise a large portion of the road in many places.
As you can see below, we decided to join the bike fun and rented two regular bikes and a tandem from the Yellow Bike place.  Riding tandem was TONS of fun and if you haven’t tried it yet, you really must!  Also, I would like to boast that I took the photo below on the left while riding my bike.  It’s a good thing it was fairly clear in front of me, or it most certainly would have been a disaster…
Check back soon for a few more Amsterdam shots!

commute

May 8, 2009

This little time-lapse was taken with our G9 camera hooked to Jason’s bike by our gorillapod.  The camera has a function to take one photo each second, so we thought we’d try it out to show you guys our bike ride home from work.  After we uploaded the video, the quality was decreased quite a bit–bummer :-/ (if you hit the “hq” button at the bottom right of the video it gets a little better).  We still wanted to share it, just to give you another glimpse into the area we live in, and because we LOVE riding our bikes all the time.  Enjoy, and beware–it might make you dizzy :)

randomness

May 1, 2009

I was going through the last of the photos that were most recently taken with our point and shoot camera, and came across a few more that I wanted to post up here.  They are a little bit random, but deserved to be shared before they are filed along with the thousands of other photographs on our computers.

First up, a shot that Jason took on our Rüdesheim bike trip–this is in a small town called Eltville, right along the Rhine.

These next two photos were taken a few weekends ago, right when the weather had started to warm up.  We went to the Schlosspark by our apartment to just relax on the grass and read a bit.  Well Jason got bored with that pretty quickly, so I handed him the camera and he walked around the park and just played around.  First, a photo of me reading, and second, a bunch of gentleman just enjoying each other’s company.

And finally, a funky shot I took of Jason on our ride back to Wiesbaden from Rüdesheim.  Sweet eye action :).

That is all for now.  We are heading to Amsterdam this weekend with Tyler and Antje.  PLUS, we have a really awesome video to show you all of our commute from work to home on our bikes!
