day seventy

December 6, 2009

Seventy days.  SEVENTY.  I can’t believe it’s been that many days since I said a tearful goodbye to Jason at the airport.  Before these past weeks, we’d never spent more than a couple days apart, and I hope to keep it that way from now on.  I also can’t believe that I’ve taken a photo every day for these past seventy days.  Today’s photo, of the Theodor-Heuss Brücke–also seen here–is the last of my photo-a-day series.  It has been so much fun to document my last couple months in Germany this way.  Click here to view all seventy days of photos on my flickr page.  It is fun to look back at them as a complete group.
I still have some Heidelberg photos and miscellaneous shots around Wiesbaden to go through and post.  And though I will not be in Germany, I will continue to photograph life as I see it and post many photos to the blog, so check back often!!

day sixty seven

December 2, 2009

Today was officially my last day of work.  After we closed down the bank for the day, Suzana, Claudia, and I drove over the bridge to Mainz.  Claudia was looking for a certain item, and we ended up passing through the Mainzer Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas Market) on our way to the store.  We walked through quickly, but I just had to grab a shot of all the beautiful lights.  Christmas markets in Germany are so festive and fun.  Tyler, Antje, and I are going to visit a couple, including this one, before I leave Sunday.

I went out to the Eisgrub Brauhaus for dinner today with a couple of my coworkers.  The Eisgrub is a local brewery and is one of my favorite restaurants here.  It is located in Mainz, the city just across the Rhein from Wiesbaden.  It was nice to spend a bit of time together outside of work, while enjoying some delicious German food.

I pass by this cute little church often.  Its steeple stands so much higher than all the buildings that surround it.  Because I normally walk by on the road next to it, it is difficult to get a good look, being so close.  This morning, I decided to walk onto a nearby overpass for a better view.

Here is the Theodor-Heuss Brücke.  This arched bridge over the Rhine connects the cities of Wiesbaden and Mainz.  Traffic on the bridge is pretty congested in the mornings, which makes me glad to be riding a bike. :)

day thirty

The residents of Wiesbaden love living by the Rhine, or Rhein, river.  A large portion of my bike ride to and from work is along the Rhein, and no matter what the weather is like, or how early it might be, I always pass by quite a few people walking, jogging, or biking by the river.  In this photo, the water is right beyond the trees, and the buildings you see are on the opposite shore, in Mainz.

Here’s the shot for today.  I enjoy this beautiful view almost every morning, so I thought I’d park the bike for a second and take a photo.  I’m sure all those green leaves will be gone soon, as fall is on its way.

this & that

Here are a few in-between-Italy-and-Switzerland photos.  First a couple shots of these pretty little purple flowers that have been springing up all around this month.

I found this little snail–the leaf he’s on was a few feet off the ground.  How did he get up there?!

Jason took this photo of me playing around with the macro setting on our little camera.  I used it to take the first flower shot up top.

This is the Mainzer Dom, in Mainz of course. :)  I shared a couple photos of this cathedral before, here.  Mainz is right across the river from Wiesbaden.
